Rodiče Julesa Bianchiho oznámili, že jejich syn dnes v noci skonal po boji se zraněníni, která utrpěl při závodě Formule 1. Posledním pilotem F1, který zemřel díky nehodě na závodním okruhu, byl dosud Ayrton Senna. Brazilský pilot těžce havaroval v roce 1994 v italské Imole.
"Jules bojoval až do úplného konce konce, opravdu, ale dnes se jeho bitva dočkala konce. Bolest je neuvěřitelná. Přáli bychom si poděkovat doktorům v Centre Hospitalier Universitaire, kteří na Julese dohlíželi a věnovali se mu po incidentu z 5. října na Suzuce při VC Japonska," oznámili rodiče Julesa Bianchiho.
"Dále děkujeme Julesovým kolegům, přátelům, fanouškům a každému, kdo s ním za posledních 9 měsíců soucítil, což nám dodávalo neuvěřitelnou sílu. Čtení tolika krásných dopisů nám pomohlo uvědomit si, že se Jules dotkl tolika srdcí a ovlivnil tolik duší," zakončili.
Pokud se podíváme na úmrtí, které se nepřihodilo přímo jezdci, tak musíme zabrousit do VC Kanady 2013, kdy se stala nehoda při pozávodním odklízení vozu Estebana Gutierreze. Jeden z traťových komisařů nešťastně upadl a řidič vyprošťovacího jeřábu ho přejel.
Vážná zranění Julesa Bianchiho ale měla podobnou odezvu, jakou měla smrt Ayrtona Senny v Imola, i tehdy se začala řešit bezpečnost, i když mnohem více než dnes. Lze říct, že díky Julesovi Bianchimu jsme se dočkali virtuálního safety caru, který znemožňuje autům projíždět v plné rychlosti okolo odstaveného vozu nebo okolo vyprošťovacích prací.
