Několik týmů tuto příležitost využilo k tomu, aby dali šanci svým nováčkům. U Ferrari proto nastoupil Mick Schumacher, totéž se vztahuje i na Landa Norrise u McLarenu, Alexandera Albona u Toro Rosso či Georgea Russella u Williamsu, protože na kontě nemají více než 2 velké ceny.

Za volantem byl s druhým McLarenem poradce a ambasador týmu Fernando Alonso, ten však společně s Daniilem Kvjatem s druhým Toro Rosso testovali výlučně pro Pirelli, jež se zaměřuje na vývoj budoucích pneumatik.
"Je to, jakoby nikdy nebyl pryč. Je to úžasné vidět Fernanda Alonsa s McLarenem opět na trati. Jeho zkušenost nám poskytne skvělou zpětnou vazbu při vývoji penumatik pro sezónu 2020," pochvaluje si Pirelli.

Den s nejrychlejším časem zakončil Verstappen s Red Bullem, mladý Schumacher na něj ve svém nejlepším pokusu ztratil jen 0,6 sekundy, Norris s McLarenem obsadil třetí příčku.
Nejvíce kol zvládl matador Hamilton s Mercedesem. Jízdy v poledne na 5 hodin přerušily přeháňky, týmy tak neměly moc možnost si na vozech vyzkoušely spoustu novinek, které přivezly. Pneumatiky pro tento test si totiž u Pirelli objednávali už v prosinci a nikdo s dešťěm nepočítal, proto musely počkat až dráha kompletně vyschne.
